JAMB Scraps Awaiting Result Option; Includes 4th Choice, BVN Registration, Others In New Reform - See Full Statement

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced that students awaiting their O’level results will no longer be able to secure admission into higher institutions.
In a statement by its spokesperson, JAMB also announced the introduction of fourth choice of higher institution during application by candidates.
The statement reads thus : “In the cause of conducting admission exercise, many institutions have admitted candidates on merit only for them to discover that such candidates do not have qualified O’levels results or the right combination for admission and had to delete and start the process all over again. With this, they would have denied other qualified candidates the opportunities for admissions.

“This we are addressing by ensuring that no candidate is henceforth recommended without his O’levels result being supplied. To achieve this, JAMB will insist that candidates supply their result on its website during registration or later, but before admissions commences for them to be considered for admissions. We believe this will allow only qualified candidates to be considered for admissions.
“Candidates and their parents are also to note that the Board has restructured the registration platform to allow for only one choice of Public University. The new registration platform will now be first choice, second choice, third choice and fourth choice and not most preferred, preferred etc as it was.
“Candidates’ first choice can be a College, University, Innovative Enterprises Institutions or Polytechnic/Monotechnic. However, if a candidate makes a Public University his first choice, he will not have any public University to choose for 2nd, 3rd and 4th choice. He will have on the remaining three choices, a College, a Polytechnic, Private University and IEI’S. However, candidates for the 2017 UTME can now select NCE (College) or ND (Polytechnic/Monotechnic) as their 1st choice up to 3rd choice and the 4th IEI. They can select the IEI (Innovative Enterprise Institution, ND) as their 1st choice up to the 4th choice, but can only pick a public university once.
“Again, we want to inform candidates that no cyber caf√© will be registering candidates for our examination. On no account should any candidate patronize any cybercaf√© for our registration. It is important to note that the Board will not deploy the use of any scratch card for the 2017 UTME registration exercise.”

Why Nigerian Universities Owned by Churches Charge High Tuition – Lagos Archbishop Emeritus Reveals

The Archbishop Emeritus of Lagos, Cardinal Anthony Okogie, has provided reasons why Nigerian universities owned by religious organizations charge higher tuition more than those of public institutions in Nigeria.
The cleric spoke during the second matriculation ceremony of the Augustine University in Ilara, Lagos State. While defending the decision of the religious organizations that own the schools, Okogie explained that the current economic situation in the country created more challenges for private varsities.
He said the charges are in order because the desire of faith-based universities to provide quality education requires a lot of funds.
He said, “Education is not too costly in faith-based institutions. Tell me what is cheap in the country now? Education is not cheap anywhere in the world.”
The guest speaker at the event, Prof. Joseph Omoregbe, noted that partial education was harmful to the individual and the society.

The retired professor of philosophy at the University of Lagos spoke on the topic, “Educating the human person –A conceptual analysis.” He said,
“Education is the development of the three faculties of an individual. They include the intellect, the memory and the will. A holistic education process must aim at developing these three faculties in order to make an individual an educated, morally upright person.” he added.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Steve Afolami, urged the Federal Government to extend scholarship from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund to private and faith-based varsities. This, he said, would be helpful, even if the private institutions would have to compete for it.

UNIOSUN Threatens to Expel 4,410 Students...Find Out the Shocking Reason

The management of the Osun State University has, in an official statement released on Monday in Oshogbo, said that 4,410 students of the institution may lose their studentship.
In an official statement made available to correspondents in Osogbo on Monday, the management of the Osun State University, has said 4,410 students of the institution may lose their studentship for owing the fees running to over N2 billion.
The university, said it was sad that over 4000 students had yet to pay their fees just two days before the deadline.
The statement by the school's Corporate Affairs Unit, said it observed that many of the students, who were owing school fees of between two and 11 semesters had collected the money from their parents and guardians but had either “invested” the money in the failed MMM scheme or diverted same to other purposes.

The university, however, stated that students who could not meet up with the deadline and, who did not want their studentship terminated might apply in writing to the school authorities to grant them leave of absence for the current semester with a sworn affidavit, pledging to make payment before resumption from the leave of absence.
The statement read; "Over 4000 students of Osun State University may lose their studentship for failing to pay their school fees before the expiration of February 28, 2017, deadline set by the university management.

"No fewer than 400 parents/guardians of the defaulting students have called the University help lines to report that they had long given money to their children/wards.

“The university Senate at its meeting of January 26, 2017, after observing that a large number of students had refused to turn up in spite of ceaseless appeals, decided that the students’ portal be reopened longer into the 12th week of resumption against the four weeks stipulated in the University regulations.

“The decision of the University Senate, which was adequately communicated to all the students on February 2, 2017, was to afford more students the opportunity to pay their fees with effect from 17th to 24th February 2017, a date which was later extended until February 28, 2017.

“On 16 February 2017, some students embarked on a protest against the enforcement of extant rules and regulations regarding fee payment and registration. Investigations show that over 90 percent of the protesters had not registered for between two and 11 semesters, and were thus using the stipulated late registration penalty of N10, 000 as a smokescreen for their years of defaulting in fee payment and registration.”
