Brief Description
The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degree or Master’s by Research program at the University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS).
The University of Sydney is an Australian public research university in Sydney. Founded in 1850, it is Australia’s first university and is regarded as one of its most prestigious, ranked as one of the world’s most reputable university. The university has faculties and schools through which it offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
The USydIS Scholarship is available to international students commencing in both the March (Research Period 2) and July (Research Period 3) Semesters. It is open to all research disciplines and students of all nationalities are invited to apply for this scholarship.
Scholarship Value
A USydIS Scholarship normally covers university tuition fees(capped at £22,000), a monthly stipend, travel costs to and from Sydney, an arrival allowance, a homeward departure allowance, the cost of one visa application, and a travel grant to attend Sydney events in Australia.
Accomoddations and Visa
The scholarship gives the students who live in Sydney about £1000 as a stipend and about £800 for those who live outside Sydney. The student may use this amount of money for his accommodation, transportation and his living needs. He can, for example, have an accommodation in a hall of residence of the university which he studies in.

The USydIS is open to all research disciplines; however participation in the USydIS program each semester is at the discretion of the Dean of each faculty. To be eligible for the USydIS, you must:
  • Be an international student commencing/intending for full time enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at this University.
  • Be a student undertaking study in a subject area identified by the University as within the areas of its current and emerging research strengths.
  • Not have held an Australia Award scholarship within two years prior to commencing the RTP Fee Scholarship.
  • Not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government makes a substantial contribution.
  • Not previously have received an RTP Fee Scholarship, unless the previous scholarship was for a Master by Research degree that you have completed and you are now applying for a doctorate research degree.
  • Not have previously considered for the scholarship up to 3 times within the last 5 years.

This scholarship is for both undergraduates and postgraduate students, all applications are online through the website link provided and must be submitted to the university before 23rd March, 2018.
You must submit an application for admission to your research degree. Your applications MUST be received by the International Student Office (ISO) by the deadline.
